A Moment of Silence: Prayer for Peace
I did this painting as part of a Peace Concert in December of 2023. While there were poets and musicians performing, I painted this piece. I started with a collage of sheet music down. During the concert I invited attendees I come up and light a candle and to have a moment of silence and prayer with me. I chose not to speak during the performance as part of the piece. With the lit candles, I used the wax and dripped it onto the wings of the two doves to use all of our praying together in the piece. The watermelon represents Palestine and the top branch represents Israel. The two doves are for the two countries. And the olive branch in the middle is us praying for peace for the people of both countries. It was and is a powerful piece in speaking of what we the people pray and want for the people in these two countries.
